CCTV in exam rooms
CCTV cameras could be added to UK exam rooms in a bid to catch hi-tech cheats. The Examination Officers' Association says an increasing number of students are using hi-tech methods to cheat on exams and will now run pilot tests in a small number of exam centres.
EOA chief executive Andrew Harland said: "If a pupil knows CCTV cameras are around, it's like slowing down for a speed camera on a main road - it acts as a deterrent."
He added that the job exam invigilators was getting harder because of the "world of wonderful technology out there," adding that pupils could use items such as pens with miniature recording and playback devices to cheat.
60 percent of exam cheats are said to take unauthorised items such as mobile phones or ipods into exam rooms.
